An ideal spot for couples wanting a relaxing break, or a safe beach holiday for families.

Nestling between Rame Head and the fishing town of Looe on this quiet, unspoilt part of the south east Cornwall coast, Downderry stretches along the coast road and has a sand and rock pool beach. Rolling hills sweep behind the village, with a walk to a sight seeing hut which gives a fabulous view out to sea, Whitsand Bay, and to the famous Eddystone Lighthouse, 14 miles away.
This is an ideal base from which to visit Cornwall’s attractions, the Eden project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and the fishing villages of Looe and Polperro. There are many National Trust houses and walks nearby plus coastal path walking, fishing (fly, coarse & sea), golf and diving. HMS Scylla in Whitsand Bay has created the UK‘s first artificial reef. Across the River Tamar via the Torpoint ferry or Tamar Bridge is Plymouth, home to the National Aquarium, historic Barbican and Plymouth City for shopping. The Theatre Royal brings new productions to Plymouth in the autumn and winter months.

From a large decked area with patio table and chairs there is a view down the valley to the sea, and green fields opposite. The open plan lounge/modern fully fiitted kitchenette is sunny and light. A home from home with comfy leather settees, TV (sky free view) & DVD/CD player. There are two bedrooms - the blue and white double bedroom is bright and fresh, and the single bedroom with bunk beds has a nautical theme. From the large patio window the view again stretches down the valley to the sea, and on the horizon is the namesake, the Eddystone Lighthouse.
Accommodation Ground Floor Only: Open plan living, kitchen / dining room. Double bedroom, second bedroom with full size bunk beds. Exterior: Deck area to the front with outside furniture.
Facilities & Services Heating is via electric heating. The kitchen is fully fitted with an electric oven & hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge with separate freezer and washer drier machine. There is a Flatscreen TV with Sky Freeview.
Miscellaneous Electricity , heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. There is 1 car parking space. We regret that there is no smoking allowed.

Whitsand Bay, on the South East Cornish Coast part of the Heritage Coast is on the last section of the coastal footpath before you head across the River Tamar into Devon. With Looe and Polperro on the Westerly edge of the bay all the way along to Rame Head you are promised great views and beaches wherever you go. Along the way you pass through Seaton at the mouth of the River Seaton, Downderry with its small mission church dedicated to St Nicholas, Portwinkle still showing evidence of 17th century Pilchard cellars.
The area has many fine shingle beaches including Seaton, Downderry and Portwrinkle, with rock pools and nearby facilities. Although the most popular beach is the four mile long sandy stretch at Whitsand Bay. Accessible from various coastal footpaths, dependant on MOD firing range at the westerly end of the beach towards Portwrinkle. Inland you have delights as such as the Cornish Orchards Farm, and further up the Tamar the Torpoint Ferry and Cotehele National Trust property and Gardens.
Eddystone was perfect for a small family. The apartment had everything we needed and was well thought out, very clean and nice and the owner was friendly and helpful. Downderry is a good spot and a great base, there is a cafe, shop, great pub and another lovely restaurant!

We had a lovely time in Cornwall, pity we couldn't have booked sunny weather to go with it! The horizontal rain that arrived on the Sunday saw us scuttling off to the pub..Inn on the Shore...lovely ale and Sunday lunch Carvery, highly recommended. The appartment was just a dream, everything we needed was there. The little things are what make it special. The selection of dvd's was handy for the days when the rain kept us indoors, and the seating outside was very nice for sitting in the sunshine and reading, sipping a glass of wine and generally chilling out. We'd recommend Eddystone to anyone who needs to recharge their batteries.
Enjoyed crabbing in Looe, apartment is lovely & cosy also lots to do in surrounding areas.

It's a beautiful part of England and we wish we'd booked 2 weeks now.

We travelled 1600km from Berlin in Germany to this wonderful place here in Downderry! We enjoyed every single day, visited a lot of lovely places in the nearby area.
We'd like to stay longer than 2 weeks, hope to be back soon! Thanks!
