Mousehole is a picturesque fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall between Penzance and Land's End, that has retained much of its old world charm. The narrow streets are filled with galleries, small shops and restaurants. Local cottages built from Lamorna granite, cluster together around the inner edge of the harbour, these are protected from the force of the sea by two robust breakwaters. Car parking in the village is extremely limited due to the narrow roads and visitors are encouraged to park on the outskirts of the village. The tiny village was overcome by the loss of the Penlee lifeboat, the Solomon Brown, just before Christmas 1981. Most of the crew was from Mousehole. On the anniversary of the Penlee Lifeboat tragedy, the Christmas Lights are turned off for one hour as a mark of respect for the crew who died whilst trying to rescue those on the Union Star off Lamorna.

The Mousehole Christmas lights are famous throughout Cornwall and are well worth visiting. You can even take a helicopter ride from Penzance to view the lights from the sky! Just offshore from the harbour is St Clement's Isle, a small group of rocks where an ancient hermit was said to have lived. A few hundred yards along the coast from the village is a huge cave, which is believed to give rise to the village’s unusual name. This is unlikely but the origin of the name is still a mystery. It is possible to walk west along the Coastal Path to Lamorna Cove, looking down on Tater Du Light on the way. To the east is Newlyn, the largest fishing port in the South West.

Pretty cottage in a lovely place

A cottage with everything we needed, the only disappointment were the carpets upstairs. Apart from being badly stained (which is not the fault of the cleaner obviously) they certainly looked like they hadn't been vacuumed before our stay. In my view, if a relatively easy job such as vacuuming hasn't been done then what else has been skipped? Bedding, toilets etc?

Excellent Location. Interior Tired

The cottage stands in an excellent location. Beautiful views of the harbour. Bus stop to local places of interest immediately outside the front door of the cottage. Mousehole is a beautiful corwall village. The property needs some attention. Downstairs is fine. A period cottage feel. Upstairs the bath front was hanging off. The back bedroom had brown stains? On the bottom of the door. Not please tell. The carpets were filthy and need replacing. They also have a smell of dogs? Moved the sofa for a better view of the TV, and found dust, crumbs, and a lip balm stick. The cottage definitely needs some improvements caring out. Location I couldn't fault. Property not the best.

Guest from Farnborough stayed for 7 nights.

I stayed in Debs Cottage in Mousehole for 9 days and it was a true home from home.

My stay at Debs Cottage was truly lovely. The cottage is large, comfortable, cozy and clean and has all the amenities anyone would need for a holiday. It's in a stunning location right on the harbour with beautiful views from the windows. The beds are very good quality for a great nights sleep I took my little dog Teddy and apart from my fiance joining me for 4 of the 9 days i was predominantly on my own yet felt safe and secure in the cottage. There was no outside space, but that didn't matter as taking your dog for a walk around Mousehole early in the morn or at any time certainly isn't a chore. There are dog friendly beaches nearby, lovely restaurants, little art galleries and shops including a great fish and chip shop, all bar one shop in Mousehole allowed Teddy in so there was no need to tie him up outside so very dog friendly. I've been coming to Mousehole as a child and then with my children and can honestly say I would now not want to stay anywhere else but in Debs cottage in the future and plan on going back again next year. I recommend the coastal walk from Mousehole to Lamorna and the walk back from Lamorna across the fields, the views are stunning. I've always loved the Old Coastguard and recommend that too. I would highly recommend Debs Cottage to anyone looking to stay in Mousehole as it is the very best.

Wonderful holiday in an Enchanting Cottage by the Sea

I feel so fortunate to have found Deb's Cottage in Mousehole. I was in the UK for eight weeks with a ten day break booked in NY. Sadly I became I'll and couldn't make the flight to the US. I had accommodation booked everywhere and suddenly I had a gap with nowhere to sleep. I decided the only thing that would compensate nit seein NY was to have a week in Cornwall. Debs cottage us enchanting and to wake up every morning and open my eyes and see the harbour and the tides coming or going was as close to heaven as I can imagine. The only downside if you let it be so is the bus stopping right outside but I turned that into a positive. The seagulls had a nest on the roof and the young fledgling made it's presence heard but I lived that sound. Seagulls in Australia have a different sound and I always long to hear an English seagull. I would love to go back to Debs cottage and will do my best to get a couple if weeks there when I next visit the UK

Family holiday with 2 dogs

Debs cottage is great, with an excellent location. I could not fault anything at the cottage. It had absolutely everything. I usually take kitchen foil, cling film, toilet rolls, t towels, salt 'n' pepper etc, but I needn't have brought anything. The only thing you need to bring is towels. My husband practically enjoyed sitting on the bench at the front, with the dogs and having a beer and having all the locals chat to him. My grandson loved the beach and fresh water fall. The only downside if you have dogs, is that there is no garden and dogs are not allowed on the beach. So my husband had to get up early every morning to walk them out of the village for their morning toilet! I enjoyed the lay in though!

The best position in the village, a little basic but all can be forgiven as the harbour views were perfect. Parking was a challenge yet managed to find a place in the laybys approaching the village on most occasions.

Very comfortable cottage in a prime harbour front location

We enjoyed a lovely week at Deb's Cottage. The property was very clean, well furnished and equipped with plenty of everything for up to 6 people. The flowers and bottles of wine were a lovely thought. The beds are extremely high quality and very comfortable, which is quite rare in a rental property. A good night's sleep is vital when there is so much to see and do in SW Cornwall. Mousehole is lovely, bursting with restaurants, bistros, cafés and tea shops - also a good fish & chip shop. Between the general store and the Hole Deli (excellent organic food) all provisions can be found. We feel that it is preferable to support local businesses rather than buying/having your food delivered from the big supermarkets. Quay side parking is just £3 per day - run by RNLI volunteers - just 3 mins walk from the cottage. We would happily return to Deb's Cottage again and are happy to highly recommend this lovely property.

Rustic Mousehole

Thrilled with location and view, the size was plenty for 6, the owners thought of everything, the cleaner must do better, filthy carpets, dog hair etc.

Reply from Debs Neave

We are very concerned that we did not meet your expectations. We do not understand this criticism as the cottage is carefully cleaned and prepared before each set of guests arrive. If you look at the comments below, and above, you will see that the cottage was rated at 5 for cleanliness on 3 occasions, and also complimented for its cleanliness by another guest in their write up. Our telephone number is on the front page of the Visitors Information book in the cottage. We would have preferred you to have called us straight away if you were not satisfied with the cleanliness of the cottage, and we would have made sure you were comfortable.

Great location, comfy cottage.

Mousehole village really does deserve Dylan Thomas’ description of it as the loveliest village in England and this wonderful cottage is perfectly placed right in the centre of it. Deb’s cottage has plenty of room and a great view of the harbour and the little island beyond it. The two front bedrooms upstairs have fantastic views with full length windows to enjoy them with. One has a comfy armchair right in the window to sit and watch the world go by. The third bedroom doesn’t have a view, but like the rest of the house is spacious and comfortable. The sitting room has the view as well, and is spacious and well furnished with comfy Chichester sofas. Parking in the north harbour car park worked fine, and we were able to unload right outside the door. I guess the car park might be rather full in summer, but there are alternatives not far away. We couldn’t get the log burner to work very well but the next door shop had plenty of wood. The cottage was plenty warm enough anyway with storage heaters; in fact we turned some of them off. Some people might find the half hourly bus that stops outside the front door, as well as the next door clock tower chime distracting, but we rather liked them, as they make the cottage feel right in the centre of things. There is also a little beach right outside the front door, and while we were there the harbour authority were bringing extra sand in lorries ready for the spring and summer. The kitchen and utility room are functional and the cottage had all the facilities and equipment that we needed. My teenage family and I loved Mousehole and the cottage and may well come again next February.

THE LIVING ROOM WAS COMFY AND LARGE ENOUGH FOR US ALL.THE ONLY ISSUE IS THE KITCHEN WHICH NEEDS A REVAMP AS NO STORAGE AND QUITE DIFFICULT TO KEEP CLEAN WHEN THERE ARE 6/7 OF YOU. THE PLACES TO EAT IN MOUSEHOLE ARE FABULOUS-THE OLD COSTGUARD VERY WELCOMING ROOMY AND CHILD FRIENDLY, 2 FORE ST FANTASTIC FOOD AND THE SOURDOUGH FROM THE DELI SPECTACULAR ALONG WITH THE BREAKFAST. Debs delightful cottage

Debs Cottage was comfortable, clean and cosy. The flowers and biscuits were a thoughtful touch. The views from the windows of the cottage were delightful ,colourful little boats ,moon light and pretty harbour lights at night, sun light reflecting upon the sea in the morning .The centrality of the cottage was excellent , it gave ease of access to award winning restaurants/tea rooms within minutes which served excellent faire, not to mention access to a local newspaper shop and also the local deli serving freshly baked scones every morning, We enjoyed strolling around the charming and characterful Mousehole side streets around the cottage and listening to the sounds of the children laughing whilst paddling or throwing themselves off the harbour walls and into the secluded harbour waters. The cottage can be a place of retreat where you can sit and watch the world go by from the comfort of your sitting room but be aware that you can be an equal object of curiosity from the passers by looking in at you! The cottage is situated next to the village clock tower chiming on the hour and the local bus stop is situated directly opposite the cottage so it can get a little congested at times but the cottage seems to attract passing visitors wanting to take photographs of the cottage (especially of the front half doors There is no parking space or garden attached to the cottage but there is a harbour parking area within a few minutes of the cottage charging £15 per week .Driving in the village is not for the faint hearted due to the narrow streets but all the visitors and local people are understanding and ready to make way for each other where needed to allow fluid movement . We loved our time in the cottage and in the village and out and about in surrounding stunning scenery along the coast. The location would suit the needs of the young and more senior ages groups, those looking for relaxation, those looking to improve fitness by walking along the coast, or steep inclines around the village., those connecting with friends and families in what feels like a safe and welcoming environment and a pleasant retreat from city life .

Family holiday in Mousehole.

Debs cottage is ideally situated, straight across the road from the beach and within a minute of a couple of charming restaurants and local pub and not forgetting the lovely Legion Club whose staff made us very welcome. There is a small shop to the side which provided all we needed for our week stay. The bus stop is right outside the cottage which didn't cause us any problems it runs throughout the day regularly and we used it to go to Penzance which was great. The cottage has everything to make stays comfortable even providing chairs for the beach. The only downside if any is that the cottage could do with a bit of a make over its ready for redecorating and freshening up. On the whole a lovely place to stay and would recommend the cottage to others.
