This lovely stone property, constructed out of Cornish granite, is situated down a quiet country lane just outside the village of Illogan. The approach is made with the last 200m on a narrow, rough, country lane. This is fine in any 4x4 or family car but perhaps not best suited to a high performance car with little ground clearance. It is a beautiful lane with wild flowers adorning the hedges throughout a large portion of the year and leads to an idyllic distinguished house which exudes privacy and peacefulness. The 3 acres surrounding Dalgover House are beautiful with a large meadow suitable for cricket, rounders, kicking a football or having a game of touch rugby. There is a wonderful Wendy house with swings, a slide and a trampoline. BBQ facilities are available to make the most of the superb outdoors space you have at your disposal. Illogan is only a short walk away and has a choice of pubs and a Co-op shop, although if spending an evening at the pub please take a torch - some of our lanes do not have street lights!

Accommodation
Ground floor: Enters into a reception room with wood burner and character fireplace. Second reception room alongside with a sofa. First reception room leads through to dining room with seating for 8 and fully fitted kitchen with all modern amenities. At the other end of the dining room is access to a hallway with doors leading to a third reception room with large screen freeview TV and DVD player. Access to outside, a utility room with washing machine and dryer and also a downstairs cloakroom and shower.
First floor: Landing at the top of the stairs with doors leading to: Two double bedrooms both with 5' beds and a twin room with both beds holding truckle beds underneath - these can be pulled out to increase capacity to 8. There is also a large family bathroom with power shower over the bath.
Exterior: Three acres of garden, meadow and orchard. The following are in the garden and may be used by the guests: Wendy house, swing, slide and trampoline. There is a small BBQ.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via central heating. The kitchen is fully fitted with a range of units. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge / freezer and dishwasher. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer. The lounge area has a flatscreen digital Freeview TV & DVD player, CD & Radio. There is free WiFi at the property. There is an iron & ironing board.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, bed linen and towels are all included but you will need to bring your own beach towels. Up to one well behaved dog is welcome at an additional £25 per week, although please remember that your dog cannot be left unattended in the property alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is off road parking for 3-4 cars. There is a cot and high chair available.

Dalgover House is situated just outside Illogan, a parish in central west Cornwall that was originally agricultural but prospered from the mining boom in the 19th century. Illogan has a local Co-op, pharmacy, a choice of pubs and a lovely hint of Cornish charm. It is equidistant from Porthtowan and Portreath beaches with their fabulous surf and glorious sand. Porthtowan (meaning cove of sand dunes) has some of the best surf in the UK. However it is sometimes not for the faint hearted and beginners should be careful but there is an excellent surf school which operates from the beach. Portreath (meaning cove of sand) is a delightful village which extends both sides of a valley leading down into a little harbour and beach. West of the harbour entrance are two more beaches with golden sands that are popular with holidaymakers and surfers alike.

Redruth and Camborne, to the south, are at the centre of Cornwall's traditional industrial heritage. To celebrate this, a new free visitor attraction called "Heartlands Cornwall" has been recently completed just off the A30 in Pool (between Redruth and Camborne). This is the UK's first cultural playground and includes a huge adventure playground made out of timber, including the custom-made "giants trap" which lives up to the legend of Bolster, a local giant, who fell head over heels for a St Agnes maid. Art studios and galleries regularly display pieces by local and national artists. There are wild botanical gardens, world heritage site exhibitions, a visitor centre and regular markets with local produce.

The city of Truro is only about a 20 minute drive to the east and has a wide selection of good shopping including Tesco, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 15 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral and Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein, is just over 25 miles away. Harbourside towns and villages such as Fowey, Falmouth and St Mawes are all within easy reach. For those flying to Cornwall, the airport is close as well.

To the south west, following the A30, Mount's Bay opens up before you with St Michael's Mount and then on past Penzance to the wild and rugged extremes of Land's End and Cape Cornwall. The open air Minack theatre is just the other side of Penzance and offers a truly stunning and surreal venue to take in a production; full details are on their website.

Family Holliday Swansong

Dalgover House is a great place for a young or grown up family like ours to stay. The quality of the fixtures and fittings are excellent. It is a fine location for surf and sand at the close by beaches of Porteath and Porthtowan and several others within 10 miles. If you prefer to relax at home the 3 acres of ground provide areas to play or just chill by yourself. There were up to eight of us staying ages from teens to seventies and everyone would move there tomorrow given a chance. Well done DALGOVER but p!ease get the council to do something about the lane. Kind regards Ken and family.

Brilliant House

We loved this perfect holiday place. The photos of the outside space don't do it justice - it's the size of a football pitch. My teenagers (and dog!) loved playing football on the lawn and the local beaches/walks are fantastic. We'd definitely book again. The house is clean, tasteful and comfortable with everything you need.

Splendid Gardens

We spent a very happy week at Dalgover House (our second visit). The garden and the play equipment were superb. The house was a bit cramped this time (5 adults 2 children and1 dog), in particular, lack of bathroom space. But a great holiday nonetheless.

a nice holiday

After finding the house the directions could be a lot better we loved what we found, the house was large and comfortable the grounds where great the dog loved them. Our grand-daughter loved the play area especially the Wendy house. We were a little disappointed that the only garden furniture was 2 benches in separate areas of a very large garden and a large table as our weather was lovely and we were able to have a couple of barbecues we made do by bringing out the dinning room chairs to sit a round the table. The area was quiet and peaceful. A very relaxed holiday.

Thank you so much for your kind review. We are glad you were able to enjoy the beautiful grounds and the Wendy house. We now ensure that the garden table and chairs are available throughout the season and wholeheartedly apologise for this oversight. Please visit us again soon!

Dalgover House - new year 2014/15

Lovely house, sympathetically decorated, clean and well equipped (blankets would have been welcome as it's cold at new year). Garden fab - kids loved the zip wire. Location great for getting away from it all and for exploring the area. Definitely recommend.

Reply from Sarah

Thank you so much for your positive review. I am glad the children enjoyed the zip wire and I hope they had fun with the trampoline, swings and Wendy house too. We have now added blankets to all the rooms to ensure added cosiness. You also have access to control of the central heating and so can adjust this to be on all the time if so needed. Hoping to see you again soon! Sarah

Excellent cottage in wonderful surroundings. Perfect for a family holiday.

The cottage has everything you could want and the garden was a huge success with our dogs. It's a great location and close to many fantastic beaches but with the countryside right on your doorstep.

The Bristowe's family Holiday

We drove from Manchester on the busiest day of the year, taking 9 hours. the last mile was a bit stressful, directions a bit confusing and the driveway a little daunting. However, once through the gate Dalgover House was most welcoming. Our children have grown up holidaying in Cornwall (2 in their 20's and one 14) and all of them were really excited at the grounds and the play apparatus, later in the week we bought a cricket set and had a match in the field one evening. The house was well equipped with excellent quality kitchenware and gadgets. There was a good supply of board games and books to read. The bedrooms were clean, comfortable and spacious and the upstairs bathroom is the biggest I have seen. The weather was fine and we made use of the BBQ to cook Mackerel the kids caught from St Ives. The walks around the property were good and from the plentiful supply of Blackberries and fallen apples from the orchard my son made a large crumble. I did dream if I won the lottery I would make the owner an offer he could not refuse for the house and all the contents....I could live there. Ken

A perfect autumn break

We stayed here with our family in October 2013. We all loved the house and especially having such a well-cared-for garden to walk, play and have coffee in. The house is away from the tourist trail but a very easy distance from St Ives, St Agnes and quieter but beautiful coves and long cliff top walks. We had a great time and would recommend it highly.

Fantastic home from home

You can tell the owner of this house set it up for the comfort of himself and his family rather than just as a rental holiday home - from the art, to the artistic touches and real mattress for the cot bed, it scores on genuine joy and comfort. Everywhere from the kitchen to the sofas and the garden, you get a little bit more. Thanks to him for opening it up as it is now, and trusting people to take care of it. The grounds are amazing, the climbing frame would make a council playground proud, and even the Wendy house has it's own mezzanine. Spent a very happy week there with our two young boys (26 and 9 months), another couple and their daughter and dog. All thoroughly enjoyed it - portreath and porthtowan are lovely beaches, and we swam every day.

marvelous place

Dalgover House is a perfect place to stay for a family with children of all ages (ours being between 6-14). It had everything needed for a recreative, but also active stay in Cornwall. It provided every comfort imaginable, and Portreath as well as Porthtowan Beach are unforgetable.
