St Ives (Cornish: Porth Ia) lies north of Penzance and west of Camborne on the coast of the Celtic Sea. In former times it was commercially dependent on fishing but has become renowned for its number of artists. The Tate St Ives exhibits work by modern British artists, including work of the St Ives School. The three storey building lies on the site of an old gas works, overlooking Porthmeor Beach. The Tate also manages the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. The St Ives September Festival, runs annually and is one of the longest running and widest ranging Festivals of the Arts in the UK. It last 15 days and includes a range of arts from music to poetry, film, talks and books. St Ives harbour is still a working port where you can watch the local fishermen landing their daily fresh catches of locally caught seafood. It is very sheltered and a perfect sun-trap in the heart of the town. Porthmeor beach has fine golden sand and is a wonderful beach for surfing with a surf school. During the summer trained lifeguards ensure the bathing is as safe as possible. There are restaurant and cafe facilities right on the beach with toilets and beach huts on the terrace behind.

The cottages was a great place to base a walking/sight seeing visit to the area. It is away from the busy spots and is in a peaceful location. The cottage is well equipped for self catering or there are numerous places nearby to eat although you need to drive a short distance to them. The only downside is that access to the garden is not direct and can be noisy footsteps from the visitors in the accommodation upstairs.

Overall the facilities were excellent.....everything you need was there. The single bed was not terribly comfortable for an adult ,but I guess it is usually used for a child.

I stayed in Chypon's barn with my two daughters (9 and 6) for a week 27/05/11-03/06/11. The barn was lovely, we were greeted by Julian on our arrival who showed us around the barn. The barn is neat, very clean and well equipped. I really appreciated the fresh flowers and cornish cream tea that was waiting after a long drive! The barn is perfectly situated to explore Cornwall. We were able to see and do so much in our week and Julian was on hand to provide us with local knowledge about where to visit which helped alot! We went seal watching, horse riding and to attractions such as the Geevor Tin Mine and Eden Project. My children adored playing with Julian and Kates dog, Dennis. It was the highlight of the holiday for them! The garden at Chypon's farm is lovely too and we enjoyed a picnic in the garden when the weather was nice. Would absolutely recommend and would love to stay again!

Whist the property was nice and clean and the owners were kind and thoughtful, there were many things that made our stay a little less relaxing and uncomfortable with a toddler. - Storage heaters (which are dangerous for a little one curious to touch everything) - the 2nd bedroom is very narrow, we couldn't fit the cot in there and shut the door at the same time, so we had to work round it and leave the door open. Which is inconvenient when trying to get a little one to sleep of an evening. I don't suppose it would - I didn't realise the property was the ground floor of the pictured accommodation, this meant our upstairs neighbours sounded like a heard of elephants just when walking around normally. If I had known it was more a ground floor flat style accommodation, I would not have booked it. - The TV and sky is so out of date (I know people don't go on holiday to watch TV but when you are a parent trying to stick to a routine of an evening, It would be nice to have a choice.) - the layout of the courtyard of properties felt a little invasive of privacy, lots of people coming and going and i think we'd prefer to stay in a less 'communal' area. A couple of times a small car came into the courtyard playing exceptionally loud music which was highly irritating.
Dear Hannah, We have had many toddlers staying in the Barn and never have the storage heaters been an issue so thank you for bringing it to our attention. The single bedroom is too small to accommodate a travel cot but fits well in the double room however as you wrote in the guest book you can work around it. The flat screen television with FreeSat has a size that is appropriate to the room. In regards to noise from upstairs again you wrote in the cottage guest book it was not the end of the world along with its so peaceful here and All in all Wonderful time staying here

We stayed in Chypons Barn for a week. The Barn is wonderful, it has lots of space, it was very clean and very complete. Julian and Kate made us feel very welcome. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely scones, stawberry jam and clotted cream that was ready for us when we arrived! Of course we ate them the 'Cornish' way. Julian had a lot of useful tips about places to visit and he also knows the best pubs to go to for a lovely meal. I recommend The Barn to everyone! We certainly hope to come again.

Had a super stay at Chypons Barn, it was easy to find and a great location, not far from St Ives. The owners were helpful and friendly, and gave us some great suggestions for evening meals. The accomodation was delightful, just like the pictures, and everything was clean. We only used the kitchen for breakfast as we were out and about during the day and ate out in the evening so we didn't use the kitchen much. I'd definitely stay there again.

A fabulous stay at Chypons Barn. The barn itself is very clean, beautifully decorated and everything is of excellent quality. All of the small touches are thought of, from dishwasher tablets, teabags and milk, information packs about the area right through to homemade scones upon arrival (which were lovely!). The hosts are very friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. They provided some great recommendations for restaurants in the area. The bed was very comfortable and the barn has everything you might need for a comfortable stay. We had a great time and would love to stay again, 10/10!

The stay was spoilt by the fact that the owners decided to keep our deposit of £100 for cleaning the oven?
We are sorry you feel your holiday was spoilt. It was good to get your email the day after your stay saying what a fab time you had, apologising for the damage to the cooker and offering to pay. To which we replied asking you what you thought was fair and reasonable. It is saddening that instead of then getting back in touch you decided to conclude the matter in this way.

Wow! What a wonderful Barn to stay in. Chypons Barn is such lovely accommodation located between St Ives and Penzance. Great to visit south Cornwall. We were met on our arrival by Julian and a delicious cream tea with fresh scones baked by Kate which after a long journey was much appreciated. The Barn was spacious and well equipped and provided us with a homely base for our holiday. The owners were more than helpful providing advice and information about the locality. Poppy the Jack Russell loved it and made herself at home. The Barn is only a few minutes drive from the A30, which allowed us to easily get to places such as The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, amd Healeys Cyder farm all highly recommended. Lands End is not far and we enjoyed the amazing scenery and coastal walks there. Note that once you have paid for parking there you can return for no additional cost multiple times during a 7 day period. We would recommend parking at Lelant Saltings park and ride amd taking the train into picturesque St Ives. The harbour town is quaint with lots of cafes, restaurants, galleries and independent shops! The fish and chips here were delicious. We will definantly be returning not only to Cornwall but also Chypons Barn. Loved it! Thank You!

This is a great base to explore the west of Cornwall. The owners are a mine of information about where to visit and to eat. We took our dog with us and he was made to feel very welcome to. The cottage was very clean and welcoming and contained everything we needed. We would stay here again if we returned to visit this part of the world.

On our arrival we were greeted by Julian & Kate and were given a guided tour of the cottage which is lovely, there were home made scones, home made jam and clotted cream in the fridge. Milk and teabags were also available. The facilities were excellent, nothing was overlooked, little touches like dishwasher tablets, toilet and kitchen rolls, washing up liquid etc. The garden is lovely and very well tended with a summerhouse full of helpful brochures and information for holidaymakers use, Julian & Kate are wonderful hosts and full of interesting and useful advice on the best beaches, walks, eating out, nothing was too much trouble we just had to ask. We were only there for a week and it was not long enough to see and do everything that was available, we would definitely visit again. Highly recommended, thank you Chypons Barn for a wonderful holiday. Kind regards Dave & Karen Ashby

Despite a later-than-planned arrival at Chypons farm, we were warmly greeted by Julian who quickly showed us into The Barn, and showed us where everything was. The accommodation was very comfortable and spacious and ideal for our purposes. We were very fortunate to be in Cornwall for the best weather of the year so far, and enjoyed an excellent week, getting out and about to many familiar haunts and a few new and interesting locations. Julian and Kate were very helpful with information and ideas for places to visit, and some excellent pubs and restaurants. We hope to return to Chypons again for a future holiday.

We have just returned home after spending a very peaceful and relaxing week at The Barn Cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and clean. Such a lovely place to stay. Central for getting to all the beautiful villages, beaches, coastal walks etc. The stunning scenery around the area is amazing. We took both our dogs and they were made very welcome. Thank you so much Julian and Kate for a memorable holiday.

Great stay in a lovely Cornish cottage. Kate and Julian (and Dennis & Alfie the dogs) were excellent hosts. They supplied all that was required for our stay, including a Cream Tea on our arrival; a thoughtful touch and very welcome after our long drive. They also offered plenty of advice on all matters - from bus times to special places to visit. We highly recommend a stay at Chypons Barn, and we will definitely return.

We had a very enjoyable week in Chypons Barn - Julian and Kate made us very welcome. Chypons Barn is set in the village of Nancledra which is just outside St Ives - so is away from the hustle and bustle of tourists. There's a lot of interesting places to visit and most easily accessible from Nancledra+ a lot of pubs and restaurants for meals out

I THOUGHT THAT FOR A DOG FRIENDLY ACCOMODATION WE COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR ANYTHING MORE, IT WAS VERY CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE. IDEALLY WE WOULD HAVE LIKED A PAVEMENT ON THE ROAD LEADING UP TO THE LOCAL PUB.
