Church Close Cottage is the result of a significant restoration of a 100 year old stone calving barn in the grounds of historic Cusgarne House, which was the home of James Watt at the end of the 18th Century. Imaginatively converted with exceptional skill, a truly enchanting 3 bedroom cottage has been created. The location is deceptively close to both the north and south Cornish coasts. The golden sand and superb surfing at Porthtowan is just 7 miles away and the fantastic water sports facilities around Falmouth and Mylor are just a short drive. There is also a pub in the village of Frogpool which is 1/2 a mile away.

The cottage is designed over a part single and part 2 storey building. There is a large open plan living area with a cosy, wood burning stove and french windows opening onto a private patio area. There are views to the south over farmland and to the south-east over the grounds and valley beyond. It is a truly peaceful and relaxing setting.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Open plan living area with a fully fitted kitchen, and range of comfortable chairs. Twin or double bedroom with zip and link beds (3ft or 6ft super king sized) and family bathroom.
First Floor: Master double bedroom (king size), second twin bedroom and separate shower room with WC.
Exterior: Small patio garden with garden furniture & BBQ. The Bullpen: A great games room with table tennis table and storage facilities for bikes, kayaks and wetsuits.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via night storage heating with combination fan heaters and the wood burning stove in the living area. The initial basket of logs is provided, you can then purchase additional baskets from the owner if you wish. The kitchen has a range of equipment. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, fridge / freezer, dishwasher & washing machine. The sitting area has a TV & DVD player.
There is Superfast WiFi available at the property, please note speeds can not be guaranteed. There is an iron & ironing board.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. A basket of logs for the wood-burner is provided free of charge. There is a carport available to park your vehicle. The area around the barn and the cottage are for pedestrians only, adding to the safety and seclusion of the site. One well behaved dog will be permitted at a small additional cost of £25 per dog / per week although please remember that you cannot leave dogs unattended in the cottage alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is a cot & high chair available.

Tin - the powerhouse of Cornwall's industrial past. Oak wooded, heather topped valleys with crystal streams once throbbed with the racket of tin streaming - winning precious metals. Engine houses and stacks bear stark, romantic testament to a heritage borne of the bravery and determination of generations of miners and Bal maidens. The area of Mid Cornwall, south west from Truro and only a short drive inland from Falmouth is full of this industrial heritage. The Victorian towns of Camborne and Redruth - both produced world-class inventors and engineers. Camborne's Richard Trevithick created the world's first steam-powered road engine in 1801. His achievements are celebrated at Camborne's annual Trevithick Day celebrations in April. You can follow in the footsteps of Cornwall's 18th Century tin miners on the atmospheric tour of the Poldark Mine just north of Helston.

Nearby is Stithians Lake, for fishing, sailing, sailboarding and recently the stunning wake-boarding championships. For views of the whole region take the roads to Carn Brea or Carn Marth above Camborne. From here you can see St Ives, St Michael's Mount, Falmouth and east to Clay Country. Near here is the Great Flat Lode Trail through the mines and high moors. These days, most of the mining has disappeared, but it is still a fascinating area to explore and is steeped in history. A highlight is to hire a bicycle and ride along the old mineral tramway now called the Bissoe Trail from Devoran to Portreath or the North Coast.

Cusgarne lies in a sheltered valley on the edge of the famous tin and copper heritage mining area between Redruth, Truro and Falmouth. Here in the past were many industries; flour mills, wool, paint, linen and candle factories to name a few. This lovely sheltered valley, where many rare plants grow, is a delightful place to visit with something for everyone to enjoy.

The harbour town of Falmouth is within a short drive with a number of attractions for the visitor. There is the fascinating National Maritime Museum or you can take a boat trip around the spectacular Carrick Roads or sample the stylish Rick Stein's Fish & Chip Restaurant or Oyster Bar.

The Helford River and Lizard Peninsula are also within easy reach.

The city of Truro is only a 7 mile drive to the north east and has a wide selection of good shopping including a Tescos, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 12 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral & Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. Harbourside towns & villages such as Fowey, Falmouth & St Mawes are all within easy reach. For those flying to Cornwall, the airport is within easy reach.

An enjoyable wet week in Cornwall

It is a well appointed cottage which is comfortable and clean in a quiet rural location. It is 10 minutes walk from the Pub in Frogpool which serves large portions of good pub grub. The cottage's central location is a good jumping off point for visiting the many attractions in the area.

A lovely cottage with very friendly owners. Some aspects of the cottage need updating such as the sofas and the locks. It's a great location and convenient to go to different areas.

Our stay at Church cottages was an enjoyable one with a good central location.

Had an enjoyable stay at a great location. The third bedroom was rather small however, and the provision of hand towels would have been good. Would definitely stay again though.

Ideal location

This is a lovely property in a great location. It it perfect for exploring Cornwall North, South, East or West, most places being only 45 mins away at most, many being much closer. It is quiet and peaceful and well maintained. We only had two minor criticisms, the beds needed summer weight duvets as the 13.5 tog ones provided are too much for the warm summer nights. Also the Wi-Fi has an Alcohol blocking filter on it so if you search for a pub to go to to spend and evening and have a meal it is blocked because of this filter. Theses did not mar a very enjoyable two weeks at the property and the info provided at the property was invaluable, including details of pubs worth a visit. Certainly the Cornish Arms, a brisk 1/2 mile walk away, which we used twice, is very convenient, with very good food and good value for money.I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a base to explore Cornwall and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom, which includes a bath and a shower, is very useful if anyone in the party has restricted mobility.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Church Close Cottage. We are sorry that you had difficulty with the Wi Fi. We have logged in today using the visitor's system but have been unable to replicate the issue you encountered. We can assure you that there is no blocking filter as we were successful in searching, through Google, for pubs and restaurants. We always welcome comments and it was unfortunate that you did not tell us of the difficulties you were encountering during your stay as we would have been delighted to help you.

Location/value/great owners/beautiful surroundings

We had a fabulous time at church close it was a great location as you got peace and tranquility being inland but didn't miss out as it was only a short drive to major towns or to Cornwall's 2 major highways. The cottage was beautiful and clean when we arrived. Our dog loved it and settled in straight away. We found the local organic farm shop just 2 minutes away to be excellent as well as the local pub who's service and food was 10/10. Was a great holiday for a great price and we are already thinking of going back next year.

Easter in Cusgarne

We stayed here with our 9 year old Grandson and found Church Close Cottage a splendid situation for us all. Cottage is light with both comfortable beds and chairs. The front of the house provides a wind free Sun trap from morning 'til evening and we had our first outdoor meals of the year. We will return.

Wonderful cottage!

The cottage and the other buildings are lovely rebuild / well-kept by the owners under great respect for the surroundings. The old farm is very neat with huge trees, flowers and a lot of space for the visitors. The house also has a lot of space. We visited it with two families (4 adults and two smaller children). It is well equipped and we found everything we needed (even fresh herbs for the guests are growing beneath the patio!). The cottage is situated at a central, but very quiet location. We needed only a 20 minutes drive both to the north coast as to the south coast. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They gave us a lot of tips to beautiful places. We had a perfect stay at this cottage. If we visit Cornwall again, we will definitely come back to Cusgarne House!

A floor plan will appear here shortly.
