Church Close Cottage is the result of a significant restoration of a 100 year old stone calving barn in the grounds of historic Cusgarne House, which was the home of James Watt at the end of the 18th Century.
Imaginatively converted with exceptional skill, a truly enchanting 3 bedroom cottage has been created.
Located in the beautiful countryside within easy reach of not only Falmouth, but also the striking Lizard Peninsula and the beaches of the north coast.
The cottage is designed over a part single and part 2 storey building.
There is
a large open plan living area with a cosy, wood burning stove and french windows opening onto a private patio area.
There are views to the south over farmland and to the south-east over the grounds and valley beyond.
It is a truly peaceful and relaxing setting.
Accommodation Ground Floor: Open plan living area with a fully fitted kitchen, and range of comfortable chairs.
Twin or double bedroom with zip and link beds (3ft or 6ft super king sized) and family bathroom.
First Floor: Master double bedroom (king size), second twin bedroom and separate shower room with WC.
Exterior: Small patio garden with garden furniture & BBQ.
The Bullpen: A great games room with table tennis table and storage facilities for bikes, kayaks and wetsuits.
Facilities & Services
Heating is via night storage heating with combination fan heaters and the wood burning stove in the living area. The kitchen has a range of equipment. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, fridge / freezer, dishwasher & washing machine.
The sitting area has a TV & DVD player. There is an iron & ironing board.
Miscellaneous Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. A basket of logs for the wood-burner is provided free of charge. There is a carport available to park your vehicle. Up to 2 well behaved dogs will be permitted at a small additional cost of £25 per dog / per week. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is a cot & high chair available.

Tin - the powerhouse of Cornwall's industrial past. Oak wooded, heather topped valleys with crystal streams once throbbed with the racket of tin streaming - winning precious metals. Engine houses and stacks bear stark, romantic testament to a heritage borne of the bravery and determination of generations of miners and Bal maidens.
The area of Mid Cornwall, south west from Truro and only a short drive inland from Falmouth is full of this industrial heritage.
The Victorian towns of Camborne and Redruth - both produced world-class inventors and engineers.
Camborne's Richard Trevithick created the world's first steam-powered road engine in 1801. His achievements are celebrated at Camborne's annual Trevithick Day celebrations in April.
You can follow in the footsteps of Cornwall's 18th Century tin miners on the atmospheric tour of the Poldark Mine just north of Helston.
Nearby is Stithians Lake, for fishing, sailing, sailboarding and recently the stunning wake-boarding championships. For views of the whole region take the roads to Carn Brea or Carn Marth above Camborne. From here you can see St Ives, St Michael's Mount, Falmouth and east to Clay Country. Near here is the Great Flat Lode Trail through the mines and high moors. These days, most of the mining has disappeared, but it is still a fascinating area to explore and is steeped in history. A highlight is to hire a bicycle and ride along the old mineral tramway now called the Bissoe Trail from Devoran to Portreath or the North Coast.
Cusgarne lies in a sheltered valley on the edge of the famous tin and copper heritage mining area between Redruth, Truro and Falmouth.
Here in the past were many industries; flour mills, wool, paint, linen and candle factories to name a few. This lovely sheltered valley, where many rare plants grow, is a delightful place to visit with something for everyone to enjoy.
The harbour town of Falmouth is within a short drive with a number of attractions for the visitor. There is the fascinating National Maritime Museum or you can take a boat trip around the spectacular Carrick Roads or sample the stylish Rick Stein's Fish & Chip Restaurant or Oyster Bar. The Helford River and Lizard Peninsula are also within easy reach.
The city of Truro is only a 7 mile drive to the north east and has a wide selection of good shopping including a Tescos, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 12 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral & Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. Harbourside towns & villages such as Fowey, Falmouth & St Mawes are all within easy reach. For those flying to Cornwall, the airport is within easy reach.

We had an absolutely fantastic holiday. Church Close Cottage in Cusgarne is a really wonderful cottage; it was spacious, comfortable, very well equipped and child friendly. Not to mention very attentive owners, our thanks to them for also arranging such great weather! To our shame this was our first visit to Cornwall but it certainly won’t be our last. We would without doubt return to Church Close Cottage. It is in a very tranquil setting within easy reach of both coasts. Please pass on our thanks.
