It doesn’t take long to discover that Bude is possibly more diverse than any other holiday destination in Cornwall. Most major villages, towns and attractions are within an hour's drive; and because Bude sits on the county border, visitors are free to explore the delights of both Devon and Cornwall at their leisure. Look past the eight main beaches and many smaller hidden coves and you soon see there really is something for everyone.
As it is a pleasant walk to the town centre of Bude, the huge sandy beach is a favourite with children and adults alike, there is an outdoor sea pool, pretty canal, golf course, splash pool and tennis courts, and you can enjoy all of this without the need of a car! Bude is Cornwall's most northern town and has been a favourite seaside resort since Victorian times. The coastal scenery surrounding the beaches is quite beautiful, boasting some of the finest sandy beaches and the best surfing in England! The town has excellent facilities and a wide selection of interesting, independent shops. This idyllic area has a large amount of bird life for the dedicated twitcher and some wonderful, scenic walks along the South West coastal path.
The centre of Bude is a lively hub with concerts, dances and fetes as well as other events throughout the season, including an annual Carnival Week. The town has a host of pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit every palate and there is a new Visitors Centre in the Crescent car park, a large children's play area, a 19th century canal and a small wharf amongst many other attractions. Bude is also home to the internationally acclaimed jazz festival which takes place each August.
Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland with its very own shipwreck! Also well worth a visit is the world famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400' high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port.
Further West down the A39 will lead you to Boscastle, Crackington Haven, Tintagel and on down to Rock, Padstow and Wadebridge all with their own fascinating histories, endless beaches, magnificent promontories, secluded coves and pubs and restaurants full of character and fine local cuisine - this part of Cornwall will rapidly become one of your favourite holiday destinations.

Me and my husband, and our 2 border collie's really enjoyed our stay at By the Byre, the pictures when we booked didn't do the cottege justice, it's such a nice place, really clean and nothing extra was needed, the owners have thought of everything. Bude is a lovely place, enjoyed lots of walks, plenty of places to eat. We hope robe back again one day.

We love to come to this peaceful setting and we are always made to feel very welcome. I miss having a bath although the shower room is first class. We will return for another break very soon

Our 3rd stay at this wonderful location with our 4th already booked. Fantastic, peaceful location and a gorgeous cottage to boot. A warm and friendly welcome and everything provided that you'd need for your stay. Brilliant.

We have stayed in a number of self catering cottages over the last 30 years or so and we would say that this is best cottage we have ever been in. The standard of accommodation and the way the owners have put a lot of thought into the little extras to make your stay perfect, the toys for children and the emergency supplies for the dog as examples.

By the Byre is a fantastic place to stay in Bude. It's location would suit walkers, dog owners, cyclists and families being an easy walk into town yet close to nature. Amy and the family are welcoming and friendly without being in your face. They have thought of everything you might need on holiday and more besides all provided with a smile. Would definitely recommend By the Byre.
Guest from Chesterfield stayed for 7 nights.
The accommodation was in a convenient location for walking into Bude by the lovely canal. It also allowed easy access to resorts along the coast. The. Owners of the property were friendly and helpful. We are already considering a return visit!

Great Location. Great Cottage Great Owners In other woods could not be faulted. we have stayed at many cottages but this is the best by some distance.
Guest from South Normanton stayed for 7 nights.
A really lovely quiet location property near enough to walk to Bude. Excellent facilities in the cottage the owners have thought of everything! Our dog loved being near the river and the canal !

By the Byre isn't the prettiest chocolate box cottage, but it more than makes up for that in every way. Amy and John have thought of absolutely everything when it comes to customer comfort... Even down to a boxes of doggy and baby stuff in case you've forgotten anything. It is immaculately clean, the beds comfortable and the little courtyard garden is perfect for sitting out in the afternoon sunshine. The location is perfect too: a short walk from the centre of Bude, right on the cycle path, 2 minutes from beautiful canal walks, plus close to the coastal path. All in all we couldn't have asked for better. This is a real gem!
Guest from Redditch stayed for 7 nights.
Arrived in this stunning part of North Cornwall, which we had never visited before. We were immediately warmly welcomed, and shown the cottage - attentive hosts, but not overpowering. Amy and John live next door, so any questions were easily raised. The cottage is light and airy, with high ceilings, this was ideal as the weather was very hot. The style is minimal, with clean lines. There are exposed beams in the bedroom and shower room. Wooden flooring throughout, except for carpetting in the two bedrooms. The door into the property folds back concertina-style to create a gap of about eight feet, allowing more air circulation on a hot day. The outdoor space was much appreciated too, with a safe and secure area for the dog. Very quiet location. There is a cycle path and canal tow path that lead into the town of Bude (about half a mile away), just enough to exercise the dog on the way for something to eat and drink! Walking the length of the canal brings you to Summerleaze beach, a one mile walk, dogs allowed but on leads. Our favourite was the slightly more distant Northcott beach - three miles away, along the coastal path, dogs allowed lead-free. A lovely cottage in a stunning landscape, very impressed.
Guest from Dormansland stayed for 7 nights.
By the Byre is well laid out and spotlessly clean, with good supplies of basic essentials (and more). Would certainly stay there again if visiting the Bude area. Personally we would have preferred firmer pillows, and possibly an extra one available (although have just realised we could have borrowed one from the twin room!). The only other comment is that a 10 minute walk into Bude along the cycle path/canal is rather optimistic - although not as fast as some we do walk at a reasonable pace but feel it was nearer to a 20 minute walk.
Guest from Studley stayed for 5 nights.
Our second stay at the venue, but our first in this particular cottage. We loved the layout and services provided and especially the rain shower - fantastic after a long run around the beaches and canal! A warm and friendly welcome coupled with a great location - we're already booked to go back in September!
Guest from Netley Abbey stayed for 7 nights.
Place was lovely, arrived and straight in no fuss, then walked just 10 mins down the cycle path to the Bank, a lovely tapas and cocktails place. Next morning had a slightly longer walk in to town, very easy down the path, fine with the buggy and our kids. Explored the beach, nosed around some of the shops and had nice tea and cake at Wroes, before toddling back for lunch and baby nap time :-) The rest of the holiday went just as nicely, troops out to Tintagel and Launceston railway, and a couple of lovely afternoons on the beach, an excellent holiday!
Guest from Harpenden stayed for 7 nights.
Great place to stay for easy access to walks along the canal towpath into the centre of Bude and the Atlantic coastal path. There is also a cycle path that nuns alongside this route. In spite of very wet weather during out stay, these paths were mud-free as they are purpose built. The cottage itself couldn't have been more comfortable with all essentials provided (and more). We would definitely recommend this cottage to others and we hope to re-visit.
Guest from Stroud stayed for 7 nights.
A well equipped and comfortable cottage within easy reach of river walks and the town centre. We took our dog and it was absolutely ideal for her but would have liked a garden gate so that she could have access to the outside without us having to worry that she might stray. We were made very welcome by the owners who were friendly and helpful. Overall, a very restful and enjoyable stay and would definitely revisit.
Guest from Droitwich stayed for 6 nights.
A fantastic welcome from the owners who are there if you need them but also ensure our privacy. We loved staying here and will be back. This was our 4th time to Bagbury!
Guest from High Wycombe stayed for 7 nights.
Without any previous knowledge of the area we stuck a pin in the map and fortunately found By the Byre. This cottage is only a short (flat) walk from the town centre of Bude but it is so peaceful you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of the countryside. We took our two labs with us and they loved it as much as we did. The property is beautifully finished and equipped with everything you might need for your stay (and for us excellent internet wifi). We mixed eating in and eating out and it worked for us. You are a very short walk from one of the National Cyle Routes so bring your bikes if that's what you fancy, we walked into town and on to the beach most days following the canal and the cycle route which meant no cars and no hills. At this time of the year all beaches are dog friendly so the dogs had endless fun, as did we! There are some interesting places to eat locally but Bude hasn't attracted the foodies as has Padstow (yet). We enjoyed The Bank for great tapas, Life's a Beach at Summerleeze beach good seafood and without question the best fish and chips (and lobster) at Scrummies in the centre of town. All in all a great cottage, perfectly located to enjoy Bude, the coast, the surf and everything Cornwall has to offer. We should forget to thank Amy and Johnny for the warm welcome and some useful pointers along the way.
Guest from Woodbridge stayed for 7 nights.
A very nice, clean barn conversion with everything you could possibly need for a holiday stay. The owners have made very good use of the space available and the garden was simple but perfect. We were made very welcome on our arrival and felt confident that the owners wanted visitors to enjoy their stay and relax at "By the Byre". Would be happy to book again.
