Bracken Lodge is a delightful wooden lodge with all modern amenities situated in a tranquil wooded valley. The lodge offers spacious open plan living in a warm and beautifully furnished environment. The lodge is a short walk from the village of Lanlivery which boasts one of the oldest pubs in the county, the Crown Inn. This was originally built in the 12th century to serve the weary Irish pilgrims who were walking the Saints Way, a route from Padstow to Fowey where Irish drovers would disembark their cattle to fatten them up walking over the green grasses of Cornwall before re-boarding their vessels in Fowey and proceeding onto France. Just over the hill from Eden Valley lies the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel, Cornwall’s hidden treasure, nestling in the Fowey River valley and overlooked by the 12th century Restormel Castle. This ancient town with its quaint old buildings is full of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, centering around St Bartholomew church which dates back to before 1170. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside with the Fowey River meandering through the centre of the town. Nearby on the south coast are Fowey, Charlestown, Looe and Polperro all within a short drive offering excellent restaurants, shops and galleries with exhibitions by local artists.

Accommodation
Ground floor only: A sun deck with table and chairs surrounds one end of the property and the front door leads into the open plan and spacious kitchen, lounge and diner. There is also another pair of doors which lead out onto the sun deck, a further door leads into the hallway with access to the master bedroom with 5' bed, en suite shower room and plenty of storage. Also accessed from the hallway is a second twin bedroom and a family bathroom with shower over.

Facilities and Services
Heating is via central heating throughout. The kitchen includes a fridge freezer, washing machine and gas oven and hob, microwave, kettle and toaster. Free WiFi is available at the property. The lounge area has an LCD TV with freeview, DVD player and electric coal effect fire. There is an iron, ironing board, cot and high chair. Use of children's outdoor adventure playground and indoor games room including pool table, bar football table etc.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating and bed linen are all included but you will need to provide your own towels. There is unlimited parking on site.

For those wishing to visit the delights of places such as The Eden Project, Charlestown and Fowey, this is the area for you, located on the Eastern side of St Austell. With large attractions such as the Eden Project on the outskirts of St Austell, The Lost Gardens of Heligan towards Mevagissey, and Lanhydrock National Trust House & Gardens a short drive inland it provides an ideal base for your travels. The coastal town of Fowey is a simple drive to the coast past the China Clay port of Par, offering fabulous restaurants, galleries and gift shops. Daphne du Maurier spent her later years in properties in and around Fowey.

St Austell was once the major producer of the world's China Clay; now with cheaper foreign imports, the industry is in decline but The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum set in two former working pits depicts the countryside in years gone by. Wet weather activities could include the visitor centre at St Austell Brewery, sampling beers and ales made on the premises. The Eden Project hosts many bands throughout the season as well as featuring an Ice Rink out of season. Bodmin was the former county town of Cornwall for many years and the only Cornish town to be recorded in the Domesday Book, which was lodged in the town's prison during the First World War. The county prison is now a museum and open to the public. It was the first prison in the country to have separate cells. The oldest part of the town is made up of mainly granite buildings clustered around the Bodmin Beacon. The Beacon is a 144 feet tall obelisk in memory of Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994. At Tregullon you are just 10 miles away from The Eden Project and 2 miles away from the National Trust's amazing Lanhydrock House. Nearby Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30, is home to one of Cornwall's Areas of Oustanding Natural Beauty, reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwall's stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families.

Well situated and well run site.

Bracken Lodge is a beautiful lodge with every comfort. Very clean, beds very comfy with good bed linen, duvet and pillows, en-suite and family bathroom, decked area with furniture for those sunny days. Kitchen has a beautifully clean gas hob and electric oven. Quiet site with lots of well tended grounds. No views as such but not really needed. You are a short drive to Lostwithiel, Mevagissy, Looe, Polperro, St. Austell, Truro . The last two are a bit further but we are talking 30 minutes all round. I found it difficult to get wi fi although it is available but following the instructions to the letter I could not get it. This happened in April when we stayed there too. Everywhere else I got it immediately so Im not sure why it wouldnt happen in Bracken Lodge. I did not bother the owner with this although I am sure help would have been readily available, they are such lovely people. Well worth staying here, I recommend it completely.

Peaceful location

Lovely spot to explore both coasts, a peaceful retreat after a busy day touring. Spotless inside and everything you would need. Our favourite spot was Polperro idyllic fishing village. A bit of a pain having to keep logging into Wi-Fi.

Fantastic stay in a tranquil location.

We based ourselves at Eden Valley Holiday Park for our first visit to Cornwall and could not be happier with our choice. We stayed at Bracken Lodge, a pretty lodge, high quality accommodation that was immaculately clean on our arrival. The lodge has everything you need for a family holiday including access to wifi (a must with two teenagers). You just need to take your own food, towels and tea towels. The park itself is beautifully kept with lots of green space, a games room and an adventure playground that my 12 year old loved. In terms of location it is placed ideally to explore the St. Austell coast and within easy access of the main routes to both North and South Cornwall. We visited Mevagissey (perfect fish and chips on the harbour), Fowey (picture postcard perfect), the Minnack Theatre (experience of a lifetime) and the awe inspiring Eden project among other places We cannot recommend this lovely property and park enough. It's ideal for families, couples and anybody looking for a tranquil base for their holiday.

A lovely lodge to stay in with plenty of space for me my husband a toddler and exceptionally clean. The bed was a bit too soft for us, although I did sleep well and there was no tea towel, but couldn't find any other faults. The play area is fantastic for a range of ages from toddler to teenagers. I would go back again.

Relaxing time for everyone

Bracken Lodge set in Eden Valley Holiday Park was a gorgeous lodge with everything needed for self catering. The lodge was pin-shine clean, very spacious, plenty of storage space, an en-suite double bedroom, very comfy beds and a lodge bathroom with plenty of space. The lounge has two large sofas which are extremely comfortable, a large dining table and plenty of kitchen room including a full size fridge/freezer and integral washing machine. It has parking space right outside, and a landing with outside table and chairs and french doors leading from the lounge. All in all the lodge was perfect. The site is really lovely and kept very well. The site owner Ginny was good enough to lend me a coat as I had not packed one (cant believe I forgot). The nearest pub is said to be within walking distance, which is true providing you have no walking problems and can cope with a steep hill. I think it is within Cornish walking distance. We took the car. We were so pleased with Bracken Lodge we have booked it again for September. If there is a slight drawback its the fact you have to use your car if you want to go anywhere but this was no problem to us. If you have children there is a great adventure park within the site.

Wonderful stay

Close to Heligan and Eden gardens positioned in a quiet spot. Woke up to birdsong every morning and the occasional wild bunny running about. Beds were confitable, everything provided was practical and functional. Facilities provided with instructions such as the washing mashine. Lovley helpful service. The wi fi was brilliant. Local pub a short walk away or a shorter stagger home as slightly downhill that way. We choose self catering to save on exspence of eating out and we had a party of 2 fussy eaters. Cooking facilities were ok to do this.

Better than the advert, more than expected.

Just returned from a "girls week" stay in Bracken Lodge with my sister and couldn't have asked for more (other than better weather that is) of the great accommodation provided. It is superbly appointed and well maintained, exceptionally clean and with everything you could want from a home away from home. It is situated in a lovely quiet valley which is a perfect respite at the end of a busy day's touring although for the family visitors there is also an adventure playground for the kids. The site is family owned and efficiently run, and the presentation and maintenance is of a high standard and a real credit to them. My sister and I came away with numerous brochures with the full intention of recommending this site to other family and friends and with the hope of re-visiting again in the not-to-distant future. Highly recommended.

Delightful stay

As others have said, Bracken Lodge is well situated, clean & comfortable. The surroundings are quiet, which makes for a relaxing break with the location being handy for Fowey, Looe, Polperro and Padstow, all of which we visited. The level of available equipment in the Lodge was generally good, although the absence of oven gloves (or something similar) for use in the kitchen proved an initial difficulty. We had to buy some. Overall however, a very enjoyable few days in the early autumn sunshine.

Reply from Eden Valley Holiday Park

Hi We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We try very hard to make our lodges a 'home from home'. We do put oven gloves in the lodges as a rule but on this occasion it must have been an oversight to which we apologise. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Carol Rawnsley - Bracken Lodge, Lanlivery - 23-30 Aug 2014

I stayed in Bracken Lodge in August and found it to be excellent in design, comfort, very well equipped. There are 7 lodges on the site which is very picturesque and quiet. My granddaughter Lola loved the adventure playground. I found the location ideal for travelling to other parts of Cornwall and again I loved Fowey which I found to be unspoilt ( I last visited Fowey in 1955!) & the beach at Polkerris is superb.I would certainly recommend the Eden Valley site to friends/family & I hope to visit again soon. Just 3 recommendations - bath/shower mats needed in the bathrooms - the decking on the verandah was very slippery after a shower of rain - a safety rail is required on both sides of the driveway at the point where the stream runs underneath. With many thanks to Ginny Hopkins for allowing access to the lodge prior to 4pm. Best wishes - Carol Rawnsley

Thankyou for your lovely review of our lodge. I am pleased your granddaughter enjoyed the play area. It is very popular amongst our younger guests. Bath mats are available on request. We are sorry the balcony seemed a bit slippery, we regularly sweep leaves/debris and jet wash it but we will look into putting warning signs in the lodge for people to be careful on the wooden verandah in wet weather. We look forward to welcoming you here again soon.

We had a lovely week at Bracken Lodge this summer. It is great value for money. A very comfortable and homely lodge set in a very beautiful and peaceful location which we were sad to leave. Our children especially enjoyed the play area! It is an ideal base in which to explore East Cornwall. peaceful holiday

We stayed a Bracken lodge because we wanted somewhere nice and peaceful as a base to explore cornwall and visit the Eden project. We were not disapointed. The lodge was immaculately clean with plenty of living space. We did have a few minor problems, like finding the instructions for the washing machine and maybe these can be made clearer in a welcome pack. The only other problem we had was a leak under the mastwr bedroom shower. This was a little more difficult for the owner to fix, but they did everything they could to rectify the problem. These issues did not spoil our holiday and were resolved. We hope to book again in 2014
