St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.
A perfect break away from everything and the Locker was an ideal base for exploring the area. Lovely and cosy in winter, we didn't want for anything. Early January an ideal time to path find around the area with not many people or cars. Highlights - eating at Roseland Inn at Philleigh, the Nare Hotel in Carne, walking up to Nare Head, fish & chips in the Victory, ferry to Falmouth, New Inn at Veryan, seeing Portloe, King Harry Ferry and pint at Punchbowl and morning coffee in the Chandler Cafe, an amazing red wine in the Idle Rocks!

Bosun's Locker proved to be a perfect location for exploring the Roseland. Last came here 40 years ago with parents and it is even better than I remembered. St Mawes is just so genteel after the melee that was St Ives. Portscatho is a pure delight and St Just church is a perfect place to light a candle and remember.

Excellent accommodation. Recommend the The Victory with brilliant food and atmosphere. Enjoyed exploring the whole area.

Accommodation was first class. Broadband and telephone, though not used often, were there if needed. The bread was worth coming back for alone. Boat trips to Truro should not be missed - beautiful scenery all the way. Falmouth is a treasure trove of museums, art galleries, another excellent baker and lots of small shops and places to eat. Walk to St Just past the castle - get there about 6pm for tranquility. The church gardens were wonderful. The Victory is a lovely local pub. Idle Rocks is great for coffee or tea on the terrace. We are totally exhausted but what fun.
