This stunning development of twenty-eight stylish and contemporary holiday villas is set within the St Merryn Park on the outskirts of St Merryn, just three miles from the popular Medieval estuary town of Padstow and close to seven spectacular bays. St Merryn is about a mile from the holiday villas where the amenities include a shop, several restaurants and pubs - including The Cornish Arms where Rick and Jill Stein are the landlords! This fantastic development is ideally located for those wishing to visit Padstow - noted for its busy fishing harbour and Rick Stein's famous restaurants. Across the estuary there is Rock, the magnificent sands of Daymar and a little further, Polzeath. This is spectacular walking country with some dramatic cliffs and coastline to explore.

Brand new from autumn 2008, these self catering villas provide modern living with a high standard of comfort throughout. Each property has two bedrooms on the first floor and on the ground floor there is a kitchen and lounge/diner leading onto a private timber decked terrace and small lawned garden.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Lounge/Diner with french windows opening onto the private patio deck. There is a single sofa bed in the lounge. An excellent, modern, well equipped kitchen. There is also a store cupboard and downstairs WC.
First Floor: One double bedroom with a great first floor balcony. Second twin room. A deluxe bathroom with bath plus over bath shower.
Exterior: Private garden with a timber decked terrace leading onto a small lawned area. External furniture is provided. There is also a separate landscaped amenity area.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via electric night storage heaters & electric panel heaters. The kitchen is fully equipped with integral appliances including electric oven & hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine & dryer, fridge and separate freezer. The lounge / diner has a large widescreen TV with a wide range of satellite channels including plus a DVD player. There is also a flatscreen TV in the main bedroom.
A cot & high chair are also available on request.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels & tea towels are all included, but you will need to bring your own beach towels. There is a reserved parking space directly outside the villa. Further parking & cycle parking is available in the nearby amenity area. Up to a maximum of two dogs are permitted in this property at a small additional cost of £42 per dog / per week or £6 per dog / per night if on a short break. Regrettably, no smoking is allowed.

Winter discounts available for couples staying for 7 nights, using one room only.

Padstow is one of Cornwall's prettiest harbour towns and in recent years has become increasingly famous due to Celebrity Chef Rick Stein and his Seafood empire. This has boosted the town commercially and certainly put Padstow on the map for those looking for a gourmet Cornish experience. Rock, just across the River Camel, has a become a popular location because of it's great water sports and often the rich & famous (and occasionally even young royalty) can be seen drifting around! The port holds many pleasure craft, providing trips around the bay and up the river, as well as fishing boats supplying the mass of fish restaurants in the town.

Tourists first arrived in Padstow in 1899 with the arrival of the Railway, now the tramway is home to the Camel Trail. This fantastic 18 mile trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through from Padstow out as far as Bodmin, Wadebridge and even as far as Blisland on Bodmin Moor. It is eminently suitable for families and is a simply superb day out cruising along the estuary and countryside.

The Obby Oss celebrations on the first of May see the village elaborately decorated with the May Pole being the focus. Two stylised 'horses', the Old Oss and the Blue Oss dance through the streets trying to chase maidens, whilst children dress up in 'junior oss' costumes. The dancing continues until midnight when the Osses return to their separate stables. Travelling West along the coast you pass Trevose Head where sits a very pretty Lighthouse round to Constantine Bay and Bethruthan steps. On the Rock side of the River Camel you also have Daymer Bay & Polzeath, a haven for North Coast Surfers and more recently where David Cameron spent his summer holidays.

Family week holiday

Lovely accommodation, clean and tidy , had everything we needed for a comfortable stay . Perfect for 4 people , would feel cramped if it were for 6. Unfortunately the location for us was not ideal, we enjoy walking and not having to use the car, the road to st merryn is not a pleasant walk especially if you had dogs and small children , not walking distance to beach and didn't appear to be any footpaths to be able to miss out the roads.

Lovely accomodation

The accomodation was very clean, comfortable & presentable and we would consider returning. Only downfall was having to take car everywhere; no pedestrian or public footpaths around. This meant taking the dog down the beach for a good run & having to always pay for parking. Definitely not a walkers ideal accomodation but a very pleasant stay.

Cornwall at St Merryn Village

The accommodation was well presented and fitted out with all the utensils and accessories needed for a self catering break. The Holiday park is conveniently located for Padstow and the coast Some development is taking place on the park but this did not intrude on our stay

a good holiday

Was actually better than I expected, on arrival we were pleasantly surprised with the size and standard of the villa, clean and tidy with enough space for the 4 of us and a little westie! Location was great as it was only a few min to padstow and no more than 30 ish to anywhere else you'd probably like to visit, we tried padstow, Mawgan Porth, Newquay, port isaac. Whilst I absolutely would and will recommend these villas, as with all reviews it would be remiss of me not to mention the cons however small they were. Simple things like: light bulbs that had gone (especially the outside light) should be checked and replaced prior to guests arrival, it is pitch black once the sun goes down, the patio door catches for holding open were broke so we had to wedge them for our dog, the grass desperately needed cutting on our arrival! Up the the armpits of our little westie and made difficult to clean up after, tho it was cut the day before we left. Like I say these are quite small inconveniences but also very easy to keep on top of! but it's only fair to finish my review with the biggest compliment u can ever give.... WE WOULD GO BACK, thanks.

Good dog friendly villa and area

The only downside was that the garden backed onto the road and people walking past could see in. Need to take care in the bedrooms because of the sloping roofs, but overall a great place to stay.

My review

A great location , the house was clean apart from the decking in the garden which had two beer cans and cigarette ends and what looked to be like sweets across the decking . This is ment to be dog friendly . I wouldn't mind as much but my dog was constantly trying to eat it all . The walls inside could do with a paint as they were covered in marks, especially where you walk up the stairs.

Further to your recent holiday at Bay Retreat Villas I refer to your subsequent review. May I offer you our profuse apologies that the garden had not been satisfactorily cleaned. The housekeepers for some strange reason overlooked the garden as it is obviously on their schedule in addition to the servicing of the villa. I can offer no excuse but can only report it as a one-off human error. Notwithstanding the above I hope you may consider returning to Bay Retreat at some future date. Meanwhile thank you for your valued custom and I very much hope we can redeem ourselves. Thank you for your attention.
