The farm is located 1.6 miles from Crackington Haven, which is included in the best surfing beaches in England and was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in its Good Beach Guide. The scenery in the beach area of the surrounding majestic cliffs is almost unrivalled. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and fantastic terrace.

The farm is located in the parish of St. Gennys, which prides itself on the excellence of its public paths with the National Trust owning most of the cliff and adjacent farmland. As you travel down the coastline, you can visit quaint coastal villages such as Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, the latter offering a range of fantastic restaurants where you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious fish.

Fifteen minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and fantastic family beaches in Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside swimming and a whole host of water-based activities. Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs.

Six miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding. With easy access to the both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.

comfortable convenient location

spacious and warm, someone has given a lot of thought to requirements of temporary stay*. bedrooms/bathrooms excellent. welcome tea/milk and scones very thoughtful and much appreciated. Also soap and detergent was a lovely touch - we will be buying and using that brand from now on. Downside is lounge - very dark and dreary even with all the lights on. Although there were plenty of cupboards in the kitchen, they were all used with storage of pots/pans and there was *no space to keep food items and it would have been nice, as in every other self catering we have stayed in, to see a few basics such as condiments, oil etc. We would book again.

Excellent base for a Cornish holiday

We were well looked after and the accommodation is excellent for large family parties. The only observations would be that the mattresses need changing for new and better quality ones. It would be a good idea also to lop back the branches which now overhang the garden and cut out the light into the house. The people running the place are a delightful couple.

Nice place shame about the weather!

We all loved the farm. The views were wonderful and the whole site had a lovely atmosphere. The cottage was good for us, with teenagers and a dog, but a bit dark and gloomy (especially the dining room) We're all keen to revisit and may try out the excellent campsite and facilities next time.

A lovely cottage with a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. Surprisingly spacious with three generously sized bedrooms and a large main sitting room. Freshly baked scones on arrival too. Will definitely make a return visit.

All good things...

Have just had an absolute fantastic week at Apple Cottage - the house itself was lovely; clean, spacious and nicely decorated - plus the nice addition of some friendly four legged visitors (mainly Sasha the very friendly farm cat!). Perfect location for anyone who wants a peaceful, rural escape! Although the farm is rural it's within a 20 minute drive to Bude and some beautiful beaches. As entitled, nothing bad to say at all!

a beautiful cottage in the middle of no where.

We had a really wonderful time at Apple Cottage. It was in the middle of nowhere. My Dad thought it fab (he's 91) Ross was a truly wonderful host allowing my brother in law to help feed pigs & hens every day.

apple cottage

The 3 for comfort was based purely on the bed in master bedroom which we have told them about. The showers were terrible but I understand they are being replaced with power showers which will make a huge difference! The cottage was lovely, very spacious for our family of 5 and large dog!

Delightful stay

First week of new ownership by Ross and Rebecca who were extremely friendly and helpful. Delightful cottage but in need of some attention which they intend to carry out. Wonderful location and excellent facilities on site. We all, including our dogs had a great time and will return.

Guest from South Croydon stayed for 7 nights.

Beautiful location but cottage needs refurbishment

Great big rambling cottage in a beautiful location with a lovely garden, comfortable beds, lovely bedlinen and towels, clean and the farm shop very useful, However I would respectfully suggest that the website is inaccurate as it stated that the cottage location was 1.6 miles from Crackington (I presumed this meant the beach) and that it had wi fi. The main reasons that I chose this cottage was both these points. However, the wifi only operated outside the property and the beach was at least 4 miles away and then really not walkeable unless you were a serious trecker. The kitchen equipment was sparce and the cupboards smelt very musty..The en suite in the aster bedroom didnt have a toilet, the other double en suite had a very loose toilet seat. the main problem though was that we only had cold showers for most of our stay and that the heating kept coming on at 1am!!! The heating was sorted once we reported it.( the owners were very nice.) but the water wasn't. We paid just short of £1000 for the week stay for this three bedroom cottage and expected a little more for our money.

Easter 2014 at Apple Cottage

Overall, Easter at Apple Cottage was a happy experience. The cottage and the rest of the farm buildings nestle in beautiful quiet countryside just a few minutes drive from Crackington Haven. The cottage is spacious and light, spotlessly clean and generally well equipped. There were a few small faults but nothing we mentioned to the owners. Unusually for self-catering, there was absolutely no basics left in the kitchen which would have been fine had we known before we did the big shop en route or we would have brought essentials from home. So.... no oil, salt, sugar, washing up liquid etc. Not a massive problem but it would have been good to have known. There were a few items of kitchen equipment we could have done with but it's very difficult to cater for everyone's needs. The shower in our room didn't work with a tiny trickle of water which didn't warm up, however long we waited but that was the worst fault. The main bathroom adjacent to our room was lovely. However, despite these and a few other niggles, this was a lot nicer than some cottages we have stayed in. The garden was quite private and to sit with coffee listening to the birds was a delight. The rooms were clean, bright and spacious with plenty of storage in the bedrooms. The heating worked a treat, we even had to turn it down! No doubt in cooler months the log-burner would add even greater warmth and character.
