Abels is a converted barn with over 200 years of history, this delightful cottage was once Blacksmith Abel’s ‘Smithy’. The cottage is converted in a contemporary style maintaining much of its original character with slate and wooden floors throughout, stone walls and exposed beams. Abels enjoys a large shared lawn area with plenty of space to relax. Cleave Farm is a simply wonderful place to stay. Positioned at the end of a mile long private lane, it is no longer a working farm but 2 homes and 3 holiday cottages created from the old farm buildings.

This is dramatic Cornwall at its best. Only 150 meters from the spectacular cliff path providing some of the finest walking in the county and yet just a short 5 minute drive from the amazing beach and surf at Crackington Haven. The larger towns of Boscastle and Bude are just short drives away as is the wild expanse of Bodmin Moor. Bude has all the facilities you would expect of a major resort, including some fine beaches.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Entrance leads into the large, galleried open plan living room with wood burning stove, comfortable sofas and kitchen diner area. A short corridor leads off to a double bedroom with 4'6" bed, the family bathroom with WC, bath and separate shower, and a bunk bedroom with additional single bed.
First Floor: Stairs lead the mezzanine bedroom area with 4'6" bed.
Exterior: Abels leads out to an open paddock grassed area shared by the other cottages. The other cottages are nearby, but detached, the main farmhouse and the Barn are out of sight. Abels has it’s own barbecue and sitting area adjacent to the paddock.

Facilities & Services
Heating is central heating and the wood burning stove. The kitchen has a range of equipment. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. There is a washing machine and tumble drier located in the shared laundry area. The sitting room area has a flatscreen digital Freeview TV & DVD player. There is WiFi available at the property. There is an iron & ironing board.

Miscellaneous
Electricity & bed linen are all included but you will need to provide your own towels. The central heating and hot water are run on an LPG meter. The cost is normally estimated at £25 per week. Up to 2 well behaved dogs will be permitted at a small additional cost of £25 per dog / per week, although please remember that you cannot leave dogs unattended in the cottage alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. Parking is available for up to 2 vehicles. There is a cot & high chair available.

The house is located 1.5 miles from Crackington Haven, which is included in the best surfing beaches in England and was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in its Good Beach Guide. The beach is surrounded by majestic cliffs providing a spectacular backdrop and it is one of Cornwall's most dramatic locations. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and fantastic terrace.

As you travel down the coastline, you can visit quaint coastal villages such as Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, the latter offering a range of fantastic restaurants where you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious fish. Twenty minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and there is a fantastic family beach in nearby Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside kite-surfing, swimming and a whole host of water-based activities.

Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs. 6 miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding. With easy access to the both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.

Guest from Nottingham stayed for 7 nights.

perfect location for a relaxed family holiday

We have just returned from a fantastic week in this beautiful cottage. The location and views are amazing. Beautiful coastal walk to Crackington Haven. I'd highly recommend the Coombe Barton Inn for great food, and helpful staff. We had day trips to Bude, Port Isaac, Looe and Adrenaline Quarry all between 15mins and an hour away. Katy and her lovely family made us all feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning! Absolutely loved it!!!!

Last minute holiday

Arrived at cottage after locating the lane, don't rely on sat nav, to find the most wonderful accommodation. Spent the evenings snuggled up with the log burner and a few glasses of wine. The cottage has everything you could possibly need but being in the location it is don't expect an easy walk to the pub if that is what you're expecting. A visit from Sarah the cottage owner was most welcome as she asked whether everything was in order and if anything else was needed. A very kind gesture. Overall an excellent location and will book it again without hesitation.

peace and quiet on the cornish North Coast

We had everything we hoped for, peace and quiet, comfort, space and in a good location which would be absolutely perfect if you were a walker. We would happily come back again if we were travelling in that area.

A great holiday

We had a lovely time at Abels cottage, had the log burner going every night due to a wet eek in August. Coastal walks were wonderful, local beaches very close, a really great holiday. Thank you!
